PFUJ condemns murder of Charsadda-based journalist Iftikhar Ahmed
Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the cold-blooded murder of journalist Iftikhar Ahmed in Shabqadar area of Charsadda district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by unknown assailants.
PFUJ’s President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi in a statement called for the arrest of the killer of journalist Iftikhar Ahmed without any delay, to bring them to justice. Journalist Iftikhar Ahmed was working with the Express Media group. He was returning home after Isha prayers when he was shot dead by unknown assailants near the mosque.
The PFUJ leadership said that attacks and loss of lives of journalists in the country are alarming and regretted that the police and law enforcement agencies have failed to provide safety and security to the journalists and media workers. “In just 24 hours, one senior journalist (Ayaz Amir) was attacked in Lahore while another (Iftikhar Ahmed) was killed in Shabqadar area of Charsadda and another Ishtiaq Ahmad in Ranipur, which indicates the failure of the provincial and federal governments,” they reminded.
“We call and urge the authorities to take concrete measures for the safety and security of those who are working with media,” they demanded.
