February 18, 2022: Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has strongly condemned the killing of senior journalist Athar Mateen in a daylight firing incident on a busy road in Karachi.
PFUJ’s President Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi while condemning the cold blooded murder of Athar Mateen demanded immediate arrest of his killers to bring them to justice. They urged the Sindh Government to take measures for providing safety and security to media community, which is being compromised as attacks and violence against journalists are on the sharp rise in Sindh particularly in Karachi. “This is a sign of ignorance and lethargy on the part of provincial authorities,” they said.
Both the leaders urged the PPP Chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to take notice of the killing of journalist in Karachi and direct the provincial government to arrest the killers of Athar Mateen.
