Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists has condemned the registration of cases against anchor person Arshad Sharif and senior journalist Sabir Shakir of ARY.
In a statement issued on Sunday the president of PFUJ Shahzad Zulfiqar and secretary-general Nasir Zaidi said that registration of such cases against working journalists is a bad precedent that amounts to stifling dissenting voices.
The two leaders observed that such action would create an impression that the government is trying to settle score with media through these cases.
Zulfiqar and Zaidi demanded that the cases be withdrawn immediately and the government must ensure that no media person is harassed or intimidated for having a dissenting point of view.
