Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condemned the comments and baseless allegations of PTI leader Ali Nawaz Awan against prominent anchorperson Asma Shirazi.
In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, the President of PFUJ Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi said that Asma Shirazi is a renowned media person who has worked hard to earn reputation and whose integrity is beyond any doubt. “Hurling allegations against such a media person without any proof seems to be a well thought out campaign which amounts to intimidating journalists believed to be highly professional and objective.”
The two leaders expressed solidarity with Ms. Shirazi, observing that the allegations against her are nothing but a manifestation of fake news.”
They demanded that PTI should tender apology over Mr. Awan’s attitude.
“The vilification campaign against Ms. Shirazi must also be stopped immediately,”
they emphasised.
“We demand that FIA must take action against those running this campaign”, the two leaders said, requesting the Prime Minister Imran Khan to also take notice of this campaign.
