Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condoled the death of veteran journalist and Editor M. Ziauddin announcing a three-day mourning.
The union says it has suspended all activities for three days and that offices of the journalist body will hoist black flags to mourn the death of the veteran journalist.
In a statement issued on Monday, President of PFUJ Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi said the death of Ziauddin was not only a great loss of the journalist fraternity but also of all those who work for rule of law, supremacy of parliament and upholding fundamental rights of all Pakistanis.
The two leaders paid tribute to the veteran journalist saying that the void that had been created after his death would not be filled for decades. “He was not only a a professional journalist but a great intellectual as well who dedicated his life training journalists and working for the strengthening of democratic forces.”
M Ziauddin was never afraid of powers that be, the two leaders observed, adding that he not only openly questioned the dictatorial policies of General Musharraf but also came hard on ill conceived policies of democratic government.
The two leaders said his services to journalism would never be forgotten.” He continued contributing to a number of publications enlightning his readers on economy, politics, society and other complex issues.”
They hoped that the legacy of veteran journalist would live on and his writings would serve as a beacon of light for the coming generations of media persons.
