Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has demanded apology from Prime Minister Imran Khan over leveling allegations against media and journalists community in a public meeting in Malakand on Sunday, where he alleged that media houses are receiving funds for running campaign against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.
In a joint statement, President of PFUJ Shahzada Zulfiqar and Secretary General Nasir Zaidi while expressing astonishment and anger over the Prime Minister’s baseless remarks and that too in a public meeting, said that, “It is surprising that the Head of the Government under whom all the agencies work, instead of ordering probe, is using public forum for spreading unfounded allegations against the media”.
They urged the Prime Minister to either order an inquiry through Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) or establish a high-level judicial commission to probe the matter, instead of spreading “fake news” for the purpose of electioneering or defusing pressure of “no confidence motion filed by the opposition parties against him”.
“Leveling fabricated, concocted, and baseless allegations against the media and journalists does not suit the stature of a Prime Minister, which is the top most slot of the country and a responsible position,” they reminded.
They said these are the crucial times for the country’s respect and credibility among the comity of nations and such a behavior of the Prime Minister will further ruin the “image of the country. They added that “we cannot afford this at this juncture of the history”.
