Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) has condoled the death of veteran journalist Irshad Rao and paid rich tributes to his heroic struggle against dictatorships particularly during Zia ul Haq’s worst-ever dictatorship from 1977 to 1988 in the country. Irshad Rao expired in Islamabad last night after a short illness.
PFUJ President Afzal Butt and Secretary General Arshad Ansari in a joint statement recounted and recalled his struggle on the streets and through his journalistic work and said “work and struggle Of Irshad Rao against dictatorships is role model for younger generation in the field Of journalism”.
They said that name Of Irshad Rao and his weekly magazine “A1 Fateh” to which he was editor was symbol of terror for Martial Law regimes and source of independent information during worst censorship imposed by General Zia ul Haq’s dictatorial government.
“Irshad Rao fought for freedom of the press and democracy in the country and never compromised for the cause and agenda set for his magazine A1 Fateh” they recalled and emphasized.
The PFUJ leadership said that Irshad Rao’s heroic struggle will remain a source of guidance for journalism practitioners and will never be forgotten.
